Birthday Layouts

I feel like I'm catching up on my scrapbooking... at least I'm only a year behind. I managed to scrapbook the kids last year's birthdays this weekend - a few more layouts and I'm done with April 2009...

For this LO I combined Lily Bee Design Hello Sunshine papers, chipboard flowers, and die-cut frame from the Mosh Posh May'10 kit with SRM birthday stickers. For the next LO I used SEI Happy Day glittered paper, some embellishments from Apron Strings and more SRM birthday stickers.

Doilies?

When I got the Mosh Posh March'10 kit I was really baffled about what to do with those Hambly Studios Doily Rub-Ons. They are really not my style of scrapbooking. After many months of thinking I came up with this set of note cards:
I used SEI cardstock so the cards are white on the inside. I decorated the doilies with some K&Co. Wild Saffron Grand adhesions and Que Sera Sera charmers; and some rhinestones.

Grampa's hat

The little one wanted to wear Grampa's hat - so adorable. I'm glad my mother-in-law managed to snap these!

I used the Apron Strings July'08 Dream Street Everyday Celebrations. I added my own cardstock (Bazzill Basics) because I wanted a darker color and a bit more texture than the one that came with the kit. I also added my own buttons (Making Memories), fasteners (EK success) and ribbon (re-purposed from a gift bag).  The ribbon was too heavy weight for the fasteners, so I had to glue it down with glue dots and glue strips to make it work, but I like the effect.

Double-sided paper

I love double-sided patterned paper, especially when they coordinate well. These two layouts used one sheet of paper each. I just cut them a few inches from the edge, flipped it over and used the manufacturer's edge strip to attach them - it's the perfect width!

My Mind’s Eye Penny Lane paper and flower from the Mosh Posh April'09 kit
K&Co chipbord tittle.

The next LO was made for the Apron Strings 5 on Friday Challenge (5/28):
* 1 sheet cardstock in navy or red
* 1 sheet patterned paper - October Afternoon Farm Fresh (Root Cellar)
* 1 set metallic embellishments - copper eyelets
* 1 set of stars - brads
* 1 set of buttons
For the title I used American Crafts Thickers.

From the stash

I do not consider myself a hoarder, but I have accumulated quite a collection of scrapbook stuff through the years - mostly because I used to buy themed packs and never used it all up. I did manage to sell some things a couple of years ago when the local scrapbook store had a "garage sale", but some of the stuff I figured I would use in the future so I saved it. This layout - that I did for the Apron Strings' Sketches on Wednesday (5/26) - used the Great Outdoors kit by American Traditions that I bought back in 2006.

Horses and Carrots

Apron Strings' Monday challenge was to create a layout using a sketch from 52 Sketches 52 Weeks, "that incorporates a nice apple green and alter the sketch to include more than the one photo". The photos are from one of our visits last year to a farm for retired horses where you can feed them carrots (that you bring). They have hundreds of horses and it is one of  my oldest son's favorite outing. Here is my take on the challenge:

I used papers & rub-ons from the Mosh Posh April'10 kit, alphas from their February'10 kit and the buttons I got from Apron Strings. With some of the scraps, SRM stickers, and flowers from the Apron Strings May'10 card kit I made the following card:
The other half of the sticker is inside the card, and reads "it's all about you!".

Cards, cards, cards...

I'm in card mode. I made these with scraps from my scrap bag - I save EVERYTHING!

I know Mother's day is officially past, but I was a bit overwhelmed before the date and I never got around to making my Mom a card within mailing time. I get to see her this weekend so I made her a card and 4 "present cards". I hope she likes them.

Papers are October Afternoon from the Mosh Posh February '10 kit and Sassafras Lass Sweet Marmalade from the Apron Strings January'10 small kit. Kaisercraft Rub-ons, Creative Imaginations Stitches rub-ons, Creative Impressions Mustard Jumbo RicRac ribbon and Sky Puffy Felt Flowers are from the Apron Strings May'10 card kit. Brads from from Eyelet Outlet & Brads.

This last one is a birthday card for my little brother, who I also get to see this weekend. His birthday is on Tuesday - I'm actually ahead of the game on this one!

Jenni Bowlin Brown Banner Stickers from the Mosh Posh March'10 kit. Balloon brads from from Eyelet Outlet & Brads.

CMOM

These are the last layouts from the NY trip. These photos were taken at the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM). Not much of a museum, more like a giant interactive play area. The kids had a lot of fun playing there.

For this layout I mixed October Afternoon from the Mosh Posh February '10 kit with Sassafras Lass Sweet Marmalade from the Apron Strings January'10 small kit. Sassafras Chipboard Letters came from the Mosh Posh kit. Journaling tag is also sassafras lass sweet Marmalade, but I bought that separate.
I used the Apron Strings July'08 KaiserCraft Playtime packet. The thickers I got from Mosh Posh (April'09). Buttons are Doodlebug Design, which I bought at Apron Strings. With some of the leftovers from the Apron Strings packet I made the following card:

Camped out

While in NY we stayed at my brother & sister-in-law's new apartment. They were still remodeling the place, so we had to make due with no kitchen and boxes everywhere - it felt kind of like camping. The kids enjoyed the visit and we didn't worry about leaving a mess after we left ;)

This was my first attempt at distressing paper. I just crumpled the squares and used a file on the seams and edges. Good paper is essential, I could not distress the white squares from DCWV (Apron Strings Card kit May'10). But the Cosmo Cricket Material Girl (Mosh Posh March'10 kit) held up great! Sassafras Chipboard Letters and Sassafras In a Stitch Buttons from the Mosh Posh February'10 kit. Other flowers are from their April'10 kit.

Friends

Here is another LO from our NY trip. We got to see a friend of mine from when I lived in Long Island back in '77-'79. Our Moms kept in touch after my family moved back to Brazil. When I was in college upstate NY we got to see each other again and we've kept in touch ever since.
I used an Apron Strings January'10 kit packet - Studio 8 Girly Girl.

5 on Friday Challenge

Here is another challenge for Apron Strings (5/14). That's my Mom with the boy in the pictures. We had an "outing" to campus on a Saturday so I could get some lab work done... Of course after that the kids wanted to go to work with me all the time!

I used the following ingredients:
  • 1 sheet of cardstock - SEI
  • 1 sheet patterned paper - Dear Lizzy "beehive brunch"
  • 1 something shiny - star brad
  • 1 something sparkly - Dear Lizzy glitter feather dimensional sticker
  • 1 something woven - re-purposed "easy care" clothes tag
Dear Lizzy stuff was from the Mosh Posh March'10 kit.

Card Sketch Challenge

Here is the card I made for the Apron Strings May 10 Sketch Challenge:

I find cards VERY challenging... somehow I always like the concept better than the final product. Maybe I just need to make more to get the hang of it...

NYC trip

I'm a chronological scrapbooker, and I'm slowly currently working my way through 2009.

The following layouts are from photos of a long weekend trip we took to see my brother in NYC. The first two LOs came out of the Apron Strings April'10 kit packet called Little Yellow Bicycle - Lucky Me.

The large alphas are from the March'10 Mosh Posh kit and some leftover paper scraps from the February'10 kit. Mini alphas are AdornIt - Caroliee Creations. Statue of Liberty embellishment by Jolie. Eyelets and tag from Eyelet Outlet & Brads.

We had a great time at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) - the kids loved the dinosaur skeletons!
Dinosaur and jewel brads from Eyelet Outlet & Brads. Alphas from the April'10 Mosh Posh kit.

The next AMNH layout was my attempt to fulfill the Apron Strings May 12 Challenge. Apparently the lack of snow in Florida and my inability to follow a recipe led to a "not quite white" layout...

I used a Wood Strip rub-on from EK Success, alphas by Sassafras (Mosh Posh Feb'10 kit) and Jenni Bowlin journaling tag.

Hello, Sunshine!

I received my Mosh Posh May'10 kit on Monday and I couldn't resist it! I know I have a lot of other beautiful paper sitting around... but I had the perfect photos for the Lily Bee Hello, Sunshine collection:

The buttons are my own: Doodlebug Design - primary assortment. I love how the colors of the layout match the toy birdhouse at the play area! These pictures are from the trip to NYC that I'm working on... more LOs on the way!

Obsession

I'm still obsessed with the Twilight saga, what can I say.

I read the unfinished draft for Midnight Sun and then I had to start on the books all over again... I had borrowed them the first time, but I bought them this time around.

I sincerely hope Stephanie Meyer will finish Midnight Sun. Actually, I hope she rewrites the whole saga through Edward's mind, the second book in particular - can we call it Full Moon?

I hope it won't be like Star Wars and I have to wait 30 years for the next set!

winter in FL

Living in Florida has some advantages, such as a very mild winter weather. Some days are just warm and sunny, like this New year's day in 2009.

I love Apron String' Smaller Than a Bread Box kits because they come with 3 sets of 2-page kits. This is the first time that I used an entire set for a layout. It's called Prima - My Mommy & Me and was part of the August'09 kit. I got it as a sub for one of the packs in the April'10 kit that didn't strike my fancy. This is a great kit club because you can skip, sub and flip the kits if they are not what goes with your style! The alphas are Umbrella Thickers from American Crafts. I ran out of "s", so I used a snake from the Accents set. I also used some illustrations from the guide that we got at the the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL.
