Thanks card

This card is for the Sketchy Thursdays 8.19 card sketch challenge. I used an October Afternoon paper - Thrift Shop - from the Mosh Posh June'10 kit. The cardstock also came in that kit, the Rub-on is BoBunny, the rest is from my stash.

And here is the sketch:

Pirate ship

This is the last layout from our 4th of July at the Florida Aquarium. Dada and my oldest son watched the fireworks show from the mock pirate ship in the water play area. How cool is that? They had to stake out their spot early and stay up there. I was with the youngest, sitting in a decent spot, with a good view of the two on the ship and the sky. I'm amazed that I got good pictures, even in the dark - my son was literaly glowing!

For this LO I used a Sassafras paper - Apple Jack - from the Mosh Posh April'10 kit and the October Afternoon Mini Market Alpha Stickers are from their February'10 kit. Coredinations cardstock (white/red, SRM (title) sticker, Jenni Bowlin journaling tag, brads from Eyelet Outlet & Brads. The black cardstock came in my K&Co page protector refills - they are so much nicer than the white paper!

Hoppy Bday Card

I made this card for the Party Time Tuesday challenge #13: create a birthday card for a child!
I used the Apron Strings April'10 small kit packet We R Memory Keepers - Hippity Hoppity. Alphas were from my stash.

Re-reading a favorite

I was tidying up downstairs the other day and found my copy of Practical Magic laying around. Someone must have taken it off the shelf and given up on reading it... so I felt compelled to read it again - it's one of my favorite books!

There are a few books I have read at different times in my life that made me wonder if that was how the story went the last time. I know I'm probably the one that has changed - or that it has been many years since I read it the first time and I forgot the details - but this feeling always baffles me while reading the book the second (or third) time around. I felt the same thing the last time I read The Princess Bride, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. I'm sure I will feel the same when I re-read The Neverending Story or Mists of Avalon, which I loved in my teens but haven't touched since. These are all books that I have kept on the shelf and moved with me from house to house. I wonder if they will still baffle me if I re-read them in another 10 or 30 years...

Cosmo Cricket cards

This past week SRM teemed up with Cosmo Cricket and their design teams made amazing cards and LOs with their products. There is a sketch challenge up at SRM and as I wanted to make a card for my friend who invited me to dinner last night I thought I'd try out Jenyfur' sketch:
Here is the card I made for my friend. I was in a hurry, so I'm not sure what I was thinking when I took this photo (It was even more crooked in it's original state!) - Anyway, I'm just amazed I even thought of photographing it! I used Cosmo Cricket Early Bird from the Apron Strings August'09 Small kit.
As I'm writing this post I realized I didn't use SRM stickers! So I had to make another card:

Fireworks!

It's so nice to be scrapbooking 4th of July photos, even if they are a year old! Last year we went to Tampa and got to see fireworks over the bay. Gorgeous show! This layout is based on Creative Scrappers sketch 115:

I dug into my stash and found this Karen Foster Fairy Dust paper and some Marcella by K (Birthday pack)that looked like fireworks to me, so I turned the sketch around and this is what I came up with:

I used Coluzzle templates to cut the title. Brads are Making Memories

Best wishes card

I made this card for a colleague who is moving away:

I used Girls Paperie - On Holiday - papers from the Mosh Posh July'10 kit. I made the card to fit in one of the Maya Road scallop envelopes that came in the kit., which I decorated to match the card. October Afternoon Mini Market Alpha Stickers are from the February'10 kit and the quote is an October Afternoon Thrift Shop Sticker from the same July'10 kit. The Creative Impressions School Printed Twill ribbon I got from Apron Strings.

Folded rose tutorial

My first tutorial. If you liked the roses from the box I posted yesterday, here is a step by step on how to make them. I followed Happay Scrappay's tutorial posted last year, but I think it is easier to see how to fold them with contrasting double-sided paper.

First cut a 1" by 12" strip of paper (Cosmo Cricket - Delimit). Fold one side forward like this:

Now start rolling as tight as you can from left to right:

Fold the paper backwards and continue rolling:

Keep rolling and folding until you get to the end:

When you get to the end use a glue dot to secure and tuck it in:

I also secure the base with a glue dot (unless you want to attach it to a stem):

Here is a close up of the front:

and the back:

Have fun!

Delovely Box

I'm quite upset that my recently printed 500+ photos from PhotoWorks have very bad resolution, as I've never had any problems with them in the past. Same camera, same upload method - I'm obviously not using them again! But as I've spent the money, I'm trying to sort things out and pick the decent ones out of the crap.

To cheer myself up, I made this box with some of the Cosmo Cricket's Delovely line that I won on one of their Facebook challenges:

The roses were made following Happay Scraps' folded flower tutorial (without the misting) using ~1" strips of Delimit and Delirious papers. I also cut out the flowers from both sides of Delectable and punched out bases for some of the roses out of Delicious.
I got the idea for the swirly accents from Julie's paper jewelry. They are made from the manufacturer's label strips.

UPDATE: I posted a tutorial here.
