S:CY Adventure time

Ali posted another great sketch on the Sketches: Creatively Yours blog today. Here is my interpretation:
Jillibean Soup Staples II paper, American Crafts foam Thickers, October afternoon rub-ons, Ranger Glossy Accents, Disney maps, SU! butterfly punch, WRMK stitch piercer. Unknown: cardstock, washi tape and crochet thread.

The challenge this week is musically-inspired. I added some rub-on musical notes to the guide brochure to bring out the music in the parade. And here is S:CY sketch 5-13:
I stretched the sketch to a two-page layout while keeping most of the elements.

I hope you get a chance to check out the rest of the team's inspiration at the Sketches: Creatively Yours blog. Our guest designer this month is Jenifer Cowles and she is offering the giveaway prize this month. It is a Lovely Day collection from My Little Shoe Box, a Super Stick from Therm-o- Web and coordinating May Arts ribbons. She might even add to the prize if there is a lot of participation and comments. So if this sketch and photo inspires you, let us know.

New Favorites

It has been a while since I read a book that I considered a favorite and wanted to start over when I finished, so I was very surprised that I read two like that back to back.

The first one was The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I loved the intricately woven, non-chronological love story. Although it is a "crying book," it wasn't one I wanted to pitch across the room (like One Day by David Nicholls, which literally, I did). Ms. Niffenegger's use of foreshadowing not only prepared me for the climax, but kept me curious about how events would take place. I was so attached to the characters that I didn't want the story to end.

Then last night, quite late, I finished Karen Lord's The Best of All Possible Worlds, which combines a culturally rich world with a delightful boy-meets-girl love story. I've tried reading sci-fi romances before, but this was the first one that felt real, like the world I've been writing.

I'm on the lookout for non-dystopia sci-fi love stories with a literary bent, so let me know if you think of any.

Latkes at S:CY

Ali has another great sketch posted on the Sketches: Creatively Yours blog today. Here is my LO:
Jillibean soup papers (Talk Soup, Alphabet Soup, Pasta Fagioli) and journaling spot; Creative Imaginations Puffy Felt Flowers; SRM stickers; AC Thickers; WRMK floss; Bic marker; unknown washi tape, cardstock and buttons. The misting was done with a Stampin' Up! marker (Cajun Craze) and spray tool. I've been holding on to those flowers for almost 3 years and I finally had an excuse to use them. The challenge this week is combining different patterns and textures :)

Here is S:CY sketch 4-13:
I rotated the sketch 180 degrees to fit my photo series better. Here is the inspiration photo with lots of patterns and textures:
I hope you get a chance to check out the rest of the team's beautiful layouts at the Sketches: Creatively Yours blog. Our guest designer this month is Jenifer Cowles.

And Jenifer was kind enough to offer the giveaway prize this month. It is a Lovely Day collection from My Little Shoe Box, a Super Stick from Therm-o- Web and coordinating May Arts ribbons. She might even add to the prize if there is a lot of participation and comments. So if this sketch and photo inspires you, let us know.

Happy Birthday MSFV

One of my favorite writing blogs, Miss Snark's First Victim, is celebrating its 5th blogversary. Authoress asked her fans to help celebrate by creating something artistic. I just had to make her a card.
Jillibean soup Pasta Fagioli paper and sugar pick; Lilybee alpha stickers; SRM sticker sentiment; May Arts ribbons; American Crafts button; Ranger Glossy Accents; unknown twine. This card was inspired by the photo below:
Authoress posted her favorites and I got honorable mention. The winners are amazingly creative, so check them out.
